Lantern Festival: Chinese Valentine's Day

Time flies, two weeks have passed since the Chinese lunar New Year. 

 

Today is the the 15th day of the first month in the lunisolar Chinese calendar, and people celebrate the Lantern Festival. 

 

It sounds like in this period Chinese festivities never end….but, the truth is: from tomorrow, the hardworking Chinese will go back to work modus.

 

Why do Chinese celebrate Lantern Festival? 

 

This day ends with the first full moon night of the Lunar New Year, which symbolises the arrival of spring.

 

What activities are organised on Lantern Festival? 

 

Lion dance : probably you once saw it at China town or in a movie 

Walk on stilts : Common Program in Chinese festivals 

Riddle games : Children’s game 

Dragon dance : the most well known Chinese festival event!

Lantern: Children go out at night carrying paper lanterns 

 

Interesting Traditional active: Finding love 

 

Yes! Finding Love!  

 

Young girls and boys go out to watch the lanterns and take the opportunity to get acquainted and meet, so it is also known as "Chinese Valentine's Day" in Southeast Asia. 

 

In Taiwan, Lantern Festival is one of the biggest events of the year.
